Many of our wines come from Southern France, where regions such as Provence, Languedoc-Rousillon and the Rhone have a unique combination of soil and weather conditions found nowhere else in the world that produces exceptional and flavorful grape harvests. The people of these regions have passed along the secrets of fine wine-making for generations and artisanal wineries here are among the finest in the world.

The Languedoc-Rousillon Region is home to luscious red grapes such as the Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and white wine grapes such as the Chardonnay, Macabeu, Clairette, Roussanne, Marsanne, Ugni blanc, Bourboulenc. Mild Mediterranean winters and hot summers contribute to rich harvests.

Provence boasts a wide variety of grapes for both red and white grapes, although Carigan, Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault are particularly popular reds and Rolle and Clairette are popular whites. Provence also has hot summers with mild to cool winters. Red wines from Provence are known for their full flavor, although the region also produces some outstanding white wines that are perfect for pairing with salads and sea foods.

Cotê de Rhônes has stony soil that is more than compensated for by the hot, sunny weather that provides a constancy wineries have come to rely on to produce some exceptional wines, particularly reds, over the years. Robust, full-bodied red wines are a specialty of the region. This is also the most diverse wine producing region.

At Sherwood Forest Vintners, we have visited each of these regions to discover what each has to offer that is unique and special for wine lovers in America. We chose to visit relatively small wineries demonstrating dedication to their craft and an appreciation for creating truly flavorful, unique wines that could be savored with friends. We believe we’ve found some of the finest wine for you.
